Issue Details

  • If my computer has only PCIe slots, can I still use my NI PCI card?
  • Does NI sell PCI to PCIe adapters, bridges, or converters?
  • If I don't have a PCIe or a PCI slot in my computer, but I need to use a PCIe or a PCI card, what adapter does NI recommend?
  • Are the MXI modules PCI-SIG compatible?
  • My new computer only has PCIe slots, can i use my PCI-6110 module with this PC?

Solution

NI does not support the use of third-party PCI to PCIe adapters and does not sell adapters.

There are cases where adapters work, but is not guaranteed and not recommended, especially with high throughput cards because the adapter may not have the throughput to support the data transfer.

Additionally, drivers may not work with the adapter, causing PCI cards to not be recognized by the system or behave incorrectly.

For our MXI modules, they are PCI-SIG compatible in the back connector directed to the PCIe slot on the motherboard or the PXIe backplane, but the front panel connector does not support this protocol.
