Issue Details

  • I could not detect PCIe-6341 in NI MAX when I slotted it in a x1 PCIe slot. However, I could be able to detect the PCIe-6341 when I slot it in an x16 PCIe slot. Other devices could be able to be used and detected in the x1 PCIe slot. Any methods to troubleshoot the issue?
  • My Windows Device Manager is not able to detect any hardware changes when I slot in NI x1 PCIe cards in a x1 PCIe slot. What should I do to be able to use the NI PCIe cards?

Solution

Theoretically, PCIe cards are able to be used in the slot that fit with their lane configuration or higher as mentioned in Can I Connect a x4 PCIe board into an x16 PCIe Slot? However, in some rare case, the PCIe cards were not able to be detected properly in the PCIe slot.

You may follow the troubleshooting steps below to isolate the issue:
  • Make sure your driver is up-to-date.
  • Make sure the device is compatible with the driver version. The readme file contains a compatibility check.
  • Make sure the PCI/PCIe slot is clean. You can use a brush to gently clean the slot.
  • Open Windows Device Manager to scan for hardware changes and check if there are any warnings or errors. If there are any warnings or errors, follow the instructions in the warnings or errors to resolve them. You may contact NI Technical Support and provide the screenshot of the warnings or errors if you have eligible subscription license.
  • Change to another slot to validate whether the device could be used on another PCI/PCIe slot. If there are other devices on the PCI/PCIe slot, please remove them and test with only one device connected to the slot.
  • Use another device in the PCI/PCIe slot to make sure it is usable.
  • Change to another PC and check whether it can work on another PC or not. Please consider testing this step with a different brand and model of PC.
  • Update your PC's firmware or BIOS system to the latest. If you have problems with how to update the firmware or BIOS system, please contact your PC's manufacturer for step-by-step guidance.
If the device can be used on another PC in a variety of PCI/PCIe slots, the issue should be compatibility between the PC and the device. You may want to contact your PC's manufacturer for further troubleshooting advice.
