Error 7 Occurs When Building Installer in LabVIEW 2026 Q3

Issue Details

After installing LabVIEW 2026 Q3 Patch 1 (26.3.1) on a system that already has both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of LabVIEW 2026 Q3 installed, Application Builder fails while building an installer and displays the following error: 

Error 7 occurred at CDK_Utility_GenerateErrorCluster.vi ->IB_MSI.lvclass:Engine_Build.vi
Error Message: LabVIEW cannot locate the source installer for a component necessary to build this installer. LabVIEW last located the missing component in the following distribution: 
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: (Hex 0x7) File not found. The file might be in a different location or deleted. Use the command prompt or the file explorer to verify that the path is correct.

Solution

This issue is resolved in LabVIEW 2026 Q3 Patch 2 (26.3.2).

To resolve the issue:

1. Install LabVIEW 2026 Q3 Patch 2 (26.3.2) or a later version via the Updates tab in NI Package Manager:
2. Rebuild the installer using Application Builder.

After updating, the build should complete successfully without the Error 7 failure.

Additional Information

This issue is limited to Application Builder installer-generation workflows. Normal LabVIEW development, editing, and execution of VIs are not affected.

The issue occurs when:

1. A system is upgraded from LabVIEW 2026 Q3 (26.3.0) to LabVIEW 2026 Q3 Patch 1 (26.3.1).
2. Both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of LabVIEW 2026 Q3 are installed side-by-side.

Systems running LabVIEW 2026 Q3 26.3.0 or systems with only a single LabVIEW architecture installed are not affected.
