Issue Details

I have an NI PXIe-8880 controller and an NI PXIe-8267 storage module. When the PXIe-8267 is installed in the chassis, the PXIe-8880 fails to boot, and the BIOS becomes unresponsive. The behavior can also be replicated when testing the hardware across another system.

Solution

Perform the following troubleshooting steps to isolate and resolve the issue:

  1. Update the PXIe-8880 controller BIOS to the latest firmware version to ensure compatibility.
  2. Remove the PXIe-8267 module from the chassis and verify whether the PXIe-8880 boots properly into the BIOS without the module installed.
  3. Observe the status LEDs on the front panel of the PXIe-8267 module immediately upon powering on the chassis to check for hardware initialisation or error states.
  4. Verify whether any pre-installed non-volatile memory express (NVMe) solid-state drives (SSDs) on the PXIe-8267 have been modified or replaced.
  5. If another PXIe-8267 module or chassis is available, swap the hardware to isolate whether the failure follows the PXIe-8267 module or remains with the controller.
