PXIe-4163 Accuracy With 2M Cable

Updated Sep 23, 2026

Issue Details

When using a PXIe-4163 together with the 142947-02 SHDB62M-DB62M-LL 2 m cable, can the system maintain sub-nA current measurement accuracy (< 1 nA) on the 1 µA measurement range while sourcing 2 V to 5 V?

I have reviewed the SHDB62M-DB62M-LL 2 m cable specifications; however, I could not find any official documentation or statement confirming that the cable does not impact the PXIe-4163 measurement specifications, particularly for low-current measurements in the sub-nA range.

Solution

Although adding the cable introduces additional parasitic capacitance and insulation resistance, the impact is expected to be minimal. The cable's guarded insulation resistance specification of 1 × 10¹² Ω remains sufficient for high-precision measurements, including sub-nA applications.

From a noise perspective, adding cables can be more susceptible to electromagnetic interference; however, the cable shielding and proper chassis grounding significantly reduce this effect.

Additionally, the PXIe-4163 remote sense feature compensates for voltage drops caused by cable resistance, maintaining force-voltage accuracy provided the lead drop remains within the specified limit of 1 V per lead.

Based on the cable design and module specifications, using a 2 m SHDB62M-DB62M-LL cable is not expected to have a significant impact on system performance. Any effect on leakage current, noise, or measurement accuracy should be negligible in most applications.
