Issue Details

When I open TestStand 2026 Q1 (32-bit or 64-bit), I receive the following error message:
You do not have the correct license type required to launch this application.
The application does not launch successfully, and the error occurs each time I attempt to start TestStand.

Solution

This issue can occur when an incompatible version of InstrumentStudio is installed on the computer.
  1. Verify the installed version of InstrumentStudio.
  2. Check whether InstrumentStudio 2026 Q2 or Q3 is installed.
  3. Uninstall InstrumentStudio 2026 Q2 or Q3 if present.
  4. Install a version of InstrumentStudio that is compatible with TestStand 2026 Q1.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Launch TestStand 2026 Q1 again.
InstrumentStudio is commonly installed as a dependency of the following NI drivers:
  • NI-DCPower
  • NI-SCOPE
These drivers are frequently installed when using:
  • NI PXI Oscilloscopes
  • NI PXI Source Measure Units (SMUs)
  • NI PXI Vector Signal Transceivers
TestStand 2026 Q1 is incompatible with InstrumentStudio 2026 Q2 and Q3. This issue was resolved in TestStand 2026 Q3.

Additional Information

InstrumentStudio may be installed automatically when installing NI-DCPower or NI-SCOPE. Systems configured for NI PXI Oscilloscopes, NI PXI Source Measure Units (SMUs), or NI PXI Vector Signal Transceivers should be checked for InstrumentStudio version compatibility when troubleshooting TestStand startup issues.
