Issue Details

I am designing a custom PCB interface for a PXIe-7822 / PXIe-7822R module and plan to connect it using a standard NI cable.

  1. Which NI PCB-mount connector should I use on my custom board to mate with the SHC68-C68-RDIO2 cable? Are part numbers 785753-01 and 785633-01 female VHDCI receptacles?
  2. Is part number 191667-01 (SHC68-68-RDIO cable) compatible with these board connectors and supported for use with the PXIe-7822?

Solution

1. Recommended PCB Connectors for PXIe-7822 with SHC68-C68-RDIO2 Cable

The standard recommended cable for the PXIe-7822 is the SHC68-C68-RDIO2 (Part Numbers: 156166-01 / 156166-02), which features 68-pin VHDCI male connectors on both ends.

To mate with this cable on a custom PCB, you must install a 68-pin female VHDCI receptacle. NI offers two documented PCB-mount receptacle options:

  • 785753-01: 68-Position Vertical Single-Stack PCB-Mount VHDCI Receptacle (Female)
  • 785633-01: 68-Position Right-Angle Single-Stack PCB-Mount VHDCI Receptacle (Female)

Both options are 68-pin female VHDCI board-mount sockets designed to mechanically mate with the male VHDCI plug of the SHC68-C68-RDIO2 cable.

2. Compatibility with Cable 191667-01 (SHC68-68-RDIO)

  • Mechanical Compatibility: The VHDCI male end of part 191667-01 (SHC68-68-RDIO) is mechanically compatible and will physically fit into the 785753-01 or 785633-01 VHDCI receptacles.
  • Functional Compatibility / Recommendation: SHC68-68-RDIO (191667-01) is not recommended or supported for use with PXIe-7822 / PXIe-782xR devices. The internal wire mapping and pin assignments of the SHC68-68-RDIO cable differ from those of the SHC68-C68-RDIO2 cable, making them non-interchangeable. For PXIe-7822 applications, always use the SHC68-C68-RDIO2 cable.

Additional Information

  • A "receptacle" connector is a stationary female electrical socket designed to receive a matching male plug.
  • When designing your custom PCB layout, refer to the device specification and cable wire mapping documentation to verify signal pin assignments from the board connector.
