Issue Details

I am attempting to establish a gPTP master-slave connection between an NI PXIe-8523 and a third-party device. The third-party device is configured to use gPTP Domain ID 0x1.
When using NI-XNET, I can find configuration options for VLAN ID, but I cannot find any property, attribute, or property node that allows me to modify the gPTP Domain ID on the NI PXIe-8523.
The NI PXIe-8523 communicates successfully with other devices when both devices use gPTP Domain ID 0x0. However, synchronization fails when connecting to the third-party device configured with Domain ID 0x1.

Solution

The NI PXIe-8523 uses the gPTP implementation provided by NI-XNET. Currently, NI-XNET uses a fixed gPTP Domain ID of 0x0, and no public NI-XNET API, property node, or hardware configuration setting is available to modify this value.
To establish gPTP synchronization:
  1. Verify that the third-party device supports configuring its gPTP Domain ID.
  2. Configure the third-party device to use Domain ID 0x0.
  3. Re-establish the gPTP connection and verify synchronization status.
If the third-party device cannot be reconfigured from Domain ID 0x1 to Domain ID 0x0, the NI PXIe-8523 will not participate in the same gPTP domain and synchronization cannot be established using the current NI-XNET implementation.
If modifying the gPTP Domain ID on the NI PXIe-8523 is required for the application, submit a feature request through NI support channels for evaluation by NI R&D.
