Error -52000 Occurred in NI MAX and Returns NaN Measurement

Issue Details

I am using an PXIe-6341 module that had been operating normally for some time. Suddenly, the measured values started displaying as NaN. When I checked the device in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), I observed error -52000 when I am doing Self Calibration and Self-Test.

Previously, restarting the PC would temporarily resolve the issue whenever the measured values showed NaN. However, the issue now persists even after restarting the system. The device continues to report invalid measurement values and the error remains visible in MAX.

The error is as shown below:

The device Self-Test failed.
Status Code: -52000
Could not allocate the specified number of bytes. 

The device calibration failed.
Status Code: -52000
Could not allocate the specified number of bytes.

Solution

The issue can be caused by either NI-DAQmx driver corruption or a hardware malfunction. Perform the following troubleshooting steps from lowest to highest effort:
 
  1. Reset the device in NI MAX.
  2. Restart the NI Configuration Manager service.
  3. Repair or reinstall NI-DAQmx.
  4. Disable Intel Virtualization Technology for I/O (VT-d) in the system BIOS, if applicable.
  5. Perform hardware isolation testing:
    • Install the PXIe-6341 in a different PXI chassis.
    • Replace the PXIe-6341 with a known-good module.
    • Test the system using a known-good chassis.

Hardware swapping with a known-good PXI controller, chassis, and module indicated that the original PXIe-6341 was the source of the failure. If the issue continues after repairing or reinstalling NI-DAQmx and the problem follows the device, contact NI for further evaluation and available service options.
