Failing SG Scalar Characterization with Low Readings using RF Fixture Characterization Tool

Updated Aug 11, 2026

Issue Details

Using the NI RF Fixture Characterization Tool, I'm attempting to run a scalar characterization of an SG (signal generator) path.  To do this, the signal generator's cabling is connected directly to an RF power meter.  When I run the characterization, it fails and the measurements are not close to the expected values:

I notice in the activity log that the "NI CAL-5501" was detected as a power meter, but this is used for vector characterization and I have a different power meter installed that is suitable for this procedure.  How can I ensure that this tool uses the correct installed power meter for the scalar characterization?

Solution

The test initialization .ini file can be used to specify the power meter to use for a particular scalar/vector characterization:

Include the PowerMeterName field in this file and specify the NI MAX alias of your desired power meter to use for your scalar or vector characterization.
