Issue Details

When I try to add a custom device to VeriStand System Explorer, the following error is triggered:

How to resolve this issue?

Solution

Inspect the Custom Devices directory and verify that there are no backup or duplicated custom device folders.

  • Check for folders that were copied for backup purposes (for example, folders with names such as Backup, Copy, or similar).
  • Remove or move any backup copies outside of the Custom Devices directory.
  • Ensure that only valid custom device folders intended for use by VeriStand remain in the directory.

After removing the duplicate folder, restart VeriStand and verify that the custom device loads correctly.

Additional Information

VeriStand automatically loads the XML definitions from every custom device folder located in the Custom Devices directory. A duplicated custom device folder with incomplete or invalid page references can cause VeriStand to load an invalid XML definition, which triggers the error even though the original custom device is configured correctly.
