Error -88716: Communication Error With the Device

Issue Details

NI-DAQ™mx is an optional driver for NI CompactRIO (cRIO). When the cRIO driver is installed, the corresponding version of the DAQmx driver is typically installed as well.

If either driver is modified independently, a version mismatch can occur. For example, updating the cRIO driver without updating DAQmx, or vice versa, may result in incompatible driver versions and lead to communication or functionality issues

 

Solution

  • Make sure the cRIO and DAQmx drivers are compatible with the operating system: NI Hardware and Software Operating System Compatibility
  • Make sure the cRIO and DAQmx driver versions are the same on the host.

  • Once you have the same driver version for DAQmx and cRIO on the host computer, reinstall the cRIO with the below steps:  

    1. In MAX, expand your system under Remote Systems. 

    2. Right-click Software. 

    3. Select Add/Remove Software to launch the LabVIEW Real-Time Software Wizard and complete the steps to reinstall the cRIO: Installing Software on the Controller

  • The LabVIEW Real-Time Software Wizard should automatically recommend a software version that is compatible with the cRIO and DAQmx driver versions installed on the host computer. Once the steps above have been completed, the driver versions on both the host system and the cRIO should be aligned, eliminating any version mismatch issues and preventing further related errors.

    The cRIO Driver package includes DAQmx driver software, which can be selected and installed as part of the cRIO driver installation process.
