Reduce High Temperature Conditions in NI PXI Chassis

Issue Details

I observe that my chassis is overheating, and the temperature is very high during operation. I am concerned about the chassis temperature and want to prevent overheating from occurring.

 

Solution

To help prevent overheating conditions in the chassis, perform the following actions:
  1. Configure the chassis cooling profile.
    • Open NI Hardware Configuration Utility.
    • Select the chassis or module configuration.
    • Set Mode to High.
    • Configure the appropriate cooling profile according to the chassis requirements.  
  2. Alternatively, you can also configure the fan settings in NI MAX.
    • Open NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (NI MAX).
    • Select the chassis.
    • Navigate to the Fans tab.
    • Set Mode to High. 
  3. Operate the chassis within the specified temperature range.
    • Verify that the ambient operating temperature complies with the chassis specifications.
    • Review the hardware specifications document for the supported operating temperature limits.
  4. Remove dust and airflow obstructions.
    • Inspect the chassis fan inlets and outlets for dust accumulation or blockages.
    • Use an air duster to remove dust from the fans and ventilation areas.
    • Ensure adequate airflow around the chassis during operation.

Additional Information

Operating a chassis beyond its specified environmental limits or with restricted airflow may result in elevated temperatures and reduced cooling performance.
