Unexpected Login Requirement Message on cDAQ-9189 During Self-Test in NI MAX

Updated Aug 5, 2026

Issue Details

After unreserving and re-reserving a cDAQ-9189 network device in NI MAX, an unexpected message appeared when running a Self-Test, displaying the message:

You do not have permission to save the settings. A login dialog box appears when attempting to save.

Logging in with the admin account allows the Self-Test to complete successfully. Other than this authentication prompt, the device functions normally, and similar behavior is not observed on other cDAQ network chassis.

Solution

To resolve this issue, disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable between the router and the cDAQ-9189. This action re-establishes network communication and removes the unexpected authentication prompt. After reconnecting the cable, Self-Test and permission settings function normally without requiring additional login credentials.

Additional Information

Although the exact cause was not identified, the behavior may have been related to network communication or device state, as the issue was resolved after the Ethernet connection was re-established.
