Missing NI IO Blocks After Moving to VeriStand Model Generation Support

Issue Details

I was using VeriStand Model Framework to generate my Simulink® models. I learned that starting with VeriStand 2021, NI switched to VeriStand Model Generation Support.

After updating, my VeriStand library completely disappeared from Simulink, and all the NI In/Out blocks in my existing models now show question marks (missing references). Why did this happen, and how can I restore or migrate my blocks?

Solution

According to the release notes, support for the VeriStand library in Simulink containing NI In/Out blocks (now called VeriStand IO blocks) was added in version 24.3 of the VeriStand Model Generation Support add-on. 

If you want to continue using VeriStand IO blocks to access submodel signals, ports, or parameters in VeriStand, update your add-on to version 24.3 or later.

If you still see question marks on your existing blocks after the update refer to the Migrating From VeriStand Model Framework to VeriStand Model Generation Support 24.3 or Newer Version document for instructions on how to replace them.

Additional Information

Note: Please be aware of a known limitation (24.3 version or below) when connecting VeriStand IO blocks directly to certain functions, as shown in the image above. Direct connections to blocks like Bus Selector, Mux, Demux, Manual Variant Source/Sink, or Signal Specification can cause model generation or deployment-time errors.

Workaround: Insert a Gain block (set to 1) between the IO block and the function.
