How to set up WLAN MIMO testing with PXIe-5860?

According to the RFmx 2026Q2 user manual , you can install the RFmx 2026Q2 software and try to set up a PXIe-5860 WLAN MIMO test station. How can you complete the setup task and perform WLAN MIMO testing?

1. Hardware Setup

Both Channel 0 and Channel 1 of the PXIe-5860 implement loopback connection: RF OUT and RF IN are connected by RF cable;

2. Software Environment

Ensure that the installed software versions of RFSA, RFSG, RFmx WLAN, and RFmx Waveform Creator are all 2026Q2.

3. Software setup steps

3.1 Configure WLAN Generation

3.1.1 Open RFmx Waveform Creator for WLAN , set Number of Generators to 2;

 

3.1.2. Set up two Generators respectively, with Resource Name PXIe-5860, and set Channel Name to 0 and 1 .

 

 

3.1.3 Configure 802.11 Standard and related parameters. The following figure shows the selection of 802.11be MIMO OFDM.

 

 

3.1.4 Set the parameter Number of Tx Channels to 2 to meet the testing requirements of MIMO;

 

3.1.5 Configure Waveform Settings parameters. Set NSTS to 2. Other parameters can be set according to user needs, such as MCS , FEC Type , etc.

3.1.6 Click Generate button to send the signal out, achieving Multiple Output.

3.2 Setting up the WLAN Analyzer

3.2.1 Open the NI-RFmx WLAN MIMO Measurement Interactive Panel and set the Number of Analyzers to 2;

3.2.2 Select PXIe-5860 as the Resource Name for each Analyzer, and set the Channel to 0 and 1 respectively (note that it is currently a loopback connection, so the channel number needs to be consistent with the RFSG setting).

3.2.3 Configure  Standard , Bandwidth , and Channels settings in Waveform Settings to match with RFmx Waveform Creator for WLAN ;

3.2.4 Click the Start button to enable both two channels of the PXIe-5860 starting to receive signal , achieving Multiple Input.

By following the steps above, you can complete the WLAN MIMO testing with the PXIe-5860 hardware.
