Restoring the Factory Windows 10 Image on PXI, PXIe Controllers With USB Recovery Media

This guide describes how to reinstall or restore the Windows 10 operating system on PXI, PXIe controllers using the official NI OS Reinstallation USB drive. Although the printed Manual states that the controller ships with an OS Recovery DVD and requires an external USB CD/DVD-ROM drive, NI has replaced recovery DVDs with USB Recovery Media for Windows 10 systems. This USB drive acts as a direct replacement, containing the same factory recovery image, and allows you to complete the restoration without an external DVD drive.

• USB keyboard connected to the controller
• Official NI Embedded Computer OS Reinstallation USB shipped in the box or purchased separately

Follow instructions listed below

• Power down your PXI Express chassis.
• Insert the NI Embedded Computer OS Reinstallation USB into any available USB port on the controller.
• Power on the chassis and immediately press the <F10> key repeatedly during startup to open the BIOS boot menu.
• Use the arrow keys to select the USB drive boot option and press <Enter>.
• Follow the on-screen prompts in the recovery environment to format the drive and restore the factory Windows 10 operating system image.

The recovery software will format the internal drive and install the factory default Windows 10 image. Once finished, the controllerrestor will reboot directly into the newly restored Windows environment with all necessary baseline peripheral drivers pre-installed.
