Issue Details

The NI‑9361 module provides differential digital inputs. Can LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) signals be connected directly to the NI‑9361 inputs without additional signal conditioning?

Solution

The NI‑9361 is not designed to directly accept LVDS signals. LVDS signals have a small amplitude of approximately ±350 mV and are intended for high‑speed interfaces, which does not match the input specifications of the NI‑9361, whose maximum I/O signal rate of 1 MHz. Furthermore, because transmission requirements such as proper termination (for example, 100 Ω) are not met, there is a high likelihood that the signal cannot be correctly recognized.

We recommend using a dedicated LVDS-compatible module, such as the PXIe-6569.
