RFmx upgrade causes PXIe power cooling mismatch errors

Updated May 22, 2026

Issue Details

I've upgraded my NI RFmx driver and now I run into an error when trying to utilize my NI VST in InstrumentStudio.

The error message states: "Error -1074097769: This instrument requires an 82 W power and cooling capable chassis. Refer to your product documentation for more information." However, my chassis is a PXIe-1092 or PXIe-1095 chassis which supplies the necessary cooling power.

Why does this happen and how can I correct this behavior?

Solution

This issue is likely stemming from a missing or deactivated service related to your PXIe chassis.

The NI PXI Chassis Management Service governs health monitoring for the chassis - including fan control. If this service isn't actively running you will encounter the above error.

This service should be able to be manually restarted in the Services.msc window by right clicking the stopped service and clicking "restart".

If that doesn't work, then you may need to repair the PXI Platform Services driver using NI Package Manager.
