Issue Details

NI DIAdem fails to launch after installation. When starting DIAdem, one or more of the following symptoms may occur:

  • DataFinder cannot start
  • Error related to DFDB_Standard.dll not opening or loading
  • DIAdem crashes immediately after launch
  • Errors appear even after a clean reinstall of DIAdem

This issue has been observed on Windows systems where DIAdem previously worked and started failing after recent Windows or software updates. Below is the example of the error:

Solution

The issue is caused by a corrupted or incompatible Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64) installation. Usually the problem started after:

  • A Windows update patched Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64)
  • The update caused DFDB_Standard.dll, which DIAdem DataFinder depends on, to fail during initialization

This leads to DataFinder startup failure and prevents DIAdem from launching correctly. To solve this issue you may need to repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installation and reboot the system:

  1. Close NI DIAdem and all NI-related applications.

  2. Open Windows Settings:

    • Go to SettingsAppsInstalled apps
  3. Locate:

    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64)
  4. Click Modify (or Advanced options) and select Repair

  5. Wait for the repair process to complete.

  6. Reboot the system.

  7. Launch NI DIAdem again and verify that:

    • DIAdem opens successfully
    • DataFinder starts without errors

Additional Information

A full reinstall of DIAdem is usually not required once the Visual C++ runtime is repaired.If multiple Visual C++ versions are installed, focus on:
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64)
If the issue persists:
  • Try repairing the x86 redistributable as well
  • Temporarily test DIAdem on another machine to rule out OS-level corruption
