Unable to Daisy-Chain Monitors to a PXI Controller

Issue Details

When connecting two daisy‑chained monitors via DisplayPort to a PXIe‑8880 or PXIe‑8881, only one display is detected and outputs video, while the second display does not show any video output.

Solution

There are three options if you want to use multiple monitors with those controllers:

  1. Disable Secure-Boot From the BIOS screen to ensure that the GPU driver gets loaded properly and MST works
  2. Use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the PXI from a multi-monitor setup and check the "Use all my monitors for the remote session" checkmark

  3. Use a USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adapter/video converter

Additional Information

The PXIe‑8881 uses an AMD Radeon™ E6465 GPU, and the PXIe‑8880 uses an AMD Radeon™ E6460 GPU. The most recent available GPU driver for these devices was released in 2015. This driver contains known security vulnerabilities that prevent it from loading fully on modern operating systems.

As a result, DisplayPort Multi‑Stream Transport (MST) functionality is affected and may not operate correctly on these systems.

AMD has acknowledged this limitation; however, due to the age of the hardware and driver, no further updates are expected.
