Issue Details

This article explains why the PXIe‑8520 module is not compatible with the PXIe‑1073 chassis, symptoms user may encounter, and which chassis models are recommended instead. When installing a PXIe‑8520 module in a PXIe‑1073 chassis, users may observe the following behaviors:

  • The module may appear in NI MAX but fails the self‑test.
  • Measurements do not start or the module becomes unresponsive and gets error -1074384281 as shown below:

 

Solution

These issues occur because the PXI‑1073 chassis does not meet the minimum cooling requirements for the PXIe‑8520 module.
The PXIe‑8520, as an NI‑XNET PXI Express module, requires PXIe‑level cooling due to its higher heat generation during operation.
Meanwhile, the PXIe‑1073 provides lower airflow and cooling capacity compared to PXIe chassis such as the PXIe‑1071 and PXIe‑1082, which are designed to meet the thermal requirements of modules like the PXIe‑8520.
