Issue Details

When using NI MAX on Windows, Korean characters (or other non-English characters) display as garbled text which are unreadable. How to display the characters correctly?

Solution

Configure the Windows system locale to match the language used by NI MAX and disable the UTF-8 beta option by following the steps below:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select Region
  3. Go to the Administrative tab
  4. Click Change system locale...
  5. Set current system locale to desired language (e.g. Korean)
  6. Ensure the Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support is unchecked
  7. Click OK
  8. Restart the computer
  9. Launch NI MAX again

After restarting, the non-English characters in NI MAX should display correctly.

Additional Information

NI MAX is a non-Unicode application and relies on the Windows system locale setting. If the system locale does not match the language of the NI MAX user interface, text may appear garbled. Enabling the UTF-8 beta option can also cause display issues in non-Unicode NI applications.
