Issue Details

Can an IVN-8563 + IVN-8561 combination be used to connect a PC to a 10BASE-T1S bus in a manner similar to USB-CAN/USB-LIN XNET devices?

Solution

The IVN-8563 and IVN-8561 are media converters only and do not function like NI USB-850x CAN/LIN XNET interfaces. The USB-C port on both devices is used strictly for device power and configuration and does not carry any Ethernet data to the PC.

To connect a PC directly to a 10BASE-T1S bus, only the IVN-8563 is required. The correct setup is:
10BASE-T1S bus → IVN-8563 → PC Ethernet port.
In this configuration, the PC sees a standard Ethernet interface and can use normal Ethernet tools and protocols (e.g., Wireshark). This does not provide NI-XNET-style frame.

Using the IVN-8563 together with the IVN-8561 in series is not appropriate for PC access. That combination only serves to bridge a 10BASE-T1S network to a 100BASE-T1 network and still does not provide USB-based data access to the PC.

For NI-XNET monitor path and endpoint path support, pair the IVN-8563 with a device such as the PXIe-8623 Automotive Ethernet Interface Module:
10BASE-T1S bus → IVN-8563 → PXIe-8623 (in a PXI chassis) → PC via PXI.
