The Nigel™ AI Advisor provides contextual advice, automation, and insights from within your NI software. Unlike general-purpose AI advisors, Nigel is specifically tuned for test application development. While many users benefit from Nigel’s capabilities, some organizations may prefer to limit or disable its functionality due to privacy, security, or compliance considerations.

This article outlines the available methods for managing Nigel, including installation exclusions, Microsoft Windows registry key disablement, license configuration, and network-level blocking.

  • Exclude Nigel During LabVIEW or TestStand Installation

During the LabVIEW installation process, users can opt-out of installing the Nigel package by deselecting NI Nigel AI Advisor for LabVIEW 2025 and NI Nigel AI Advisor for TestStand 2025 from the list of components. This is the simplest way to prevent Nigel from being deployed.

Note: To enable Nigel if previously disabled using this method, re-run the LabVIEW installer and select NI Nigel AI Advisor for LabVIEW to enable the Nigel component. There is no need to reinstall the full LabVIEW suite.

  • Disable Nigel via Registry Keys

IT administrators can disable Nigel across systems using registry keys. These keys are documented in the Nigel™, AI Advisor section of the LabVIEW User Manual and include:

    • Disable Discuss Feature Prevents access to collaborative discussion tools.
    • Disable All Nigel Functionality Ensures Nigel is inactive, even if installed.

Note: This method is supported beginning with Nigel™ AI Advisor for LabVIEW 2025 Q3 Patch 2 and Nigel™ AI Advisor for TestStand 2025 Q3 or newer. Refer to the Nigel AI Advisor section of the LabVIEW User Manual linked above.

  • Block All Browser Traffic to Nigel Webpage

Nigel communicates through a dedicated URL endpoint. To effectively disable Nigel’s online functionality, you can block all network traffic to the following URL: https://tnm.emerson.com/nigel

Blocking access to this endpoint will prevent Nigel from operating online. For assistance with implementing this block, please contact your IT Support team.

Note: Ensure this method aligns with your organization’s network policies and firewall configurations.

  • License File Configuration via Renewals Team

For organizations with elevated concerns, NI’s Renewals team can generate license files based on LabVIEW versions released prior to 2025 Q3, which do not include Nigel.

The LabVIEW 2025 Q3 release includes core performance optimizations, expanded integration support, and other enhancements beyond Nigel. Skipping this version may introduce compatibility constraints with newer NI tools and limit access to critical updates.

Nigel is designed to enhance both LabVIEW and TestStand software experience, but NI recognizes the need for flexibility in enterprise environments. Whether you choose to enable, limit, or disable Nigel, NI provides multiple configuration options to suit your organization’s needs.

For detailed instructions, registry key values, and licensing support, please consult the LabVIEW User Manual or contact NI Support.
