  • PXIe-1090

Issue Details

When using the PXIe-1090 chassis with modules PXIe-4139 (20 W) and PXI-5122, both modules return error -88705, which indicates that the devices are not present in NI MAX. The chassis LEDs are green for both System and MXI indicators at first. After inserting both modules, the System LED turns steady red, and the MXI LED turns off.

Solution

The issue occurs because the PXIe-1090 chassis has a limited current capacity on the -12V rail, specifically:

PXIe-1090 provides only 250 mA on the -12V rail.

The PXI-5122 digitizer draws up to 270 mA from the -12V rail, exceeding the chassis limit.

This mismatch causes:

  • The chassis to fail to fully initialize the PXI-5122 module.
  • The System LED to turn red (indicating a fault).
  • The MXI link LED to turn off.

Additional Information

Recommended Actions:
Remove PXI-5122 and boot the chassis with only PXIe-4139. If PXIe-4139 works alone, the chassis is functioning correctly.

Consider these alternatives:
Use a PXIe digitizer instead of PXI-5122.
Use a different chassis that supports both PXIe-4139 and PXI-5122.
