Issue Details

I have a PXIe-58xx VST that I am attempting to self-calibrate using the VST Self Calibrate utility. However, whenever I launch the utility the VST does not appear in the list of devices. I am able to run a successful self-test on the VST and can also use the LabVIEW VI to self-calibrated the VST, but it does not show up in the utility.

Why does the VST not appear in the VST Self Calibrate utility?

Solution

The VST Self Calibrate utility (located in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\NI VST\Self Calibration) was built for the first generation of NI Vector Signal Transceivers (i.e. PXIe-564x VSTs). This utility performs a self-calibration on the PXIe-564x VSTs using the VST Instrument Design Libraries (IDLs) that are only supported with those VST models. Under the hood of the VST Self Calibrate utility, it performs a model number query of the devices in the chassis and will only populate the VST in the list of available resources if the device model is a 564x.

For all other VSTs, including the 564x VSTs, the recommended self-calibration methods are:

  • Using the Hardware Configuration Utility (HWCU)
  • Using the NI-RFSA/RFSG API
  • Using the NI-RFSA/RFSG Classic Soft Front Panel (Not supported with the PXIe-5842 or PXIe-5860)
  • Using InstrumentStudio (Requires RFmx to be installed)
