Issue Details

Concern regarding whether connecting an analog output channel of the PXIe-6739 directly to ground (GND) may cause damage to the module.

Solution

The PXIe-6739 analog output channels are protected against short circuits to ground under normal operating conditions. The module includes output protection circuitry designed to handle such scenarios temporarily. However, prolonged or repeated shorts, especially under high current or voltage settings, may degrade the output driver or cause thermal stress.

Recommendation:

Avoid intentionally shorting analog outputs to ground. If grounding is necessary for testing or calibration, ensure current limits are respected and duration is minimized. Refer to the PXIe-6739 specifications for maximum output current and thermal limits.

Additional Information

  • For safety and longevity of the module, use appropriate load conditions and avoid exceeding rated output specifications.
  • If damage is suspected, perform a self-test or calibration verification using NI MAX or diagnostic tools.
