Issue Details

My device is not able to boot up. It seems that hard drive files became corrupted. Is it still possible to recover the data stored on the hard drive?

Solution

Based on the type of the hard drive failure it may or may not possible to recover data:

  • Logical failure (e.g., corrupted Windows, bad sectors):
    • The drive is physically intact but the system can't boot.
    • Data recovery is usually possible using software.
  • Mechanical failure (e.g., clicking noises, not spinning):
    • The drive has physical damage.
    • Requires professional recovery services.
  • Electronic failure (e.g., power surge, PCB damage):
    • May need component replacement or expert help.

If the drive is still spinning and detected:

  • Use a USB-to-SATA adapter or external enclosure to connect it to another computer.
  • Try recovery software like:
    • Recuva
    • EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
    • R-Studio
    • TestDisk (free and powerful)

If the drive is not detected or makes strange noises:

  • Do not attempt DIY repairs — this can worsen the damage.
  • Contact a professional data recovery service.
