PXIe-8861 Shows "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"

Issue Details

After powering on my PXIe-8861, it'll boot to a black screen that say:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

I can still see the SSD in the BIOS but my controller won't boot into Windows. How to I resolve this?

Solution

If you see this message with the PXIe-8861, perform the following steps:

  1. Download the PXIe-8861 BIOS version 26.0.0f1 or newer and save it to USB drive
    1. Link: PXIe-8861 Firmware and Additional Drivers
  2. On the PXIe-8861 controller, clear the CMOS
    1. Power off the chassis.
    2. Remove the controller from the chassis.
    3. Press the push-button switch, as shown in the following figure.
    4. Wait 10 seconds.
    5. Reinstall the controller in the chassis.
      1. These steps will revert the BIOS options back to their default values.
      2. These steps should allow to the controller to boot into Windows one time. After this one time, the controller may revert back to the previous "Select proper Boot device" message
  3. Boot the controller and open NI-MAX as an Admin
  4. Select the PXIe-8861 in NI-MAX, and then select Update Firmware located in the right-hand pane
    1. Try maximizing the NI-MAX window to locate the Update Firmware button.
  5. Insert the USB drive and select the BIOS file 2.0.5f5 or newer. 
  6. Following the instructions given in NI-MAX.
