This article explains how to configure or change the speed of ARINC 429 channels when working with NI PXIe Astronics Ballard ARINC 429 modules in LabVIEW.

You will use the BTIXMLEdit utility, which installs automatically with the Astronics Ballard Avionics Drivers from NI Package Manager or the NI website.

Hardware/Software Requirements:

  • NI PXIe Astronics Ballard ARINC 429 Module (LV-222-44X-XXX)

  • LabVIEW with Astronics Ballard Avionics Drivers

  • BTIXMLEdit utility

  1. Install the Astronics Ballard Avionics Drivers using NI Package Manager or from the NI website.

    • The installation also provides the BTIXMLEdit configuration utility.

  2. Open the BTIXMLEdit utility:

    • Navigate to Start Menu >> Astronics Ballard Technology >> BTIXMLEdit.

  3. Create a new configuration or access an example configuration.

    • Example configurations are located in: C:\Program Files\NI\LVAddons\ballardinstr64\<version>\examples\Astronics Ballard Technology\BTI429Lib\

  4. Open the configuration file (for example, Channel Config.xml) in BTIXMLEdit.

  5. Select the ARINC 429 channel you want to configure.

    • In the right pane, locate the speedKHz attribute.

  6. Set the desired channel speed:

    • Default value: 100 kHz

    • Adjustable range: 2.4 kHz to 200 kHz, with increments of 0.1 kHz.

  7. Save the configuration file to apply changes.

After completing these steps, you will be able to configure the channel speed of ARINC 429 protocols when using NI PXIe Astronics Ballard modules in LabVIEW.
