Finding LabVIEW Examples for Astronics Ballard PXIe MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 429 Modules

When using Astronics Ballard PXIe MIL-STD-1553B or ARINC 429 modules, you may not see protocol examples in the NI Example Finder. This article explains how to access the LabVIEW examples installed with the Astronics Ballard Avionics Driver.

Requirements:

• NI LabVIEW
• Astronics Ballard PXIe MIL-STD-1553B or ARINC 429 module (LV-222-XXX-XXX)
• Astronics Ballard Avionics Driver (installed via NI Package Manager or from the Astronics Ballard website)

1. Install the Astronics Ballard Avionics Driver
   • Open NI Package Manager or download the driver from the Astronics Ballard Technology website.
     
     
2. Open the LabVIEW Add-Ons Examples
   
   • Navigate to: Windows Start Menu >> Astronics Ballard Technology Folder >> LabVIEW Add-Ons Examples
     
     
     
3. Locate the Example Libraries
   • A File Explorer window will open.
      
     
     
   • BTI1553Lib folder contains LabVIEW examples for the MIL-STD-1553B protocol
      
     
     
   • BTI429Lib folder contains LabVIEW examples for the ARINC 429 protocol
     
     
     
4. Access Examples from the File System (Optional)
   • Depending on the driver version installed, examples may also be located at:
   • C:\Program Files\NI\LVAddons\ballardinstr64\<driver version>\examples\Astronics Ballard Technology
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 20xx\examples\Astronics Ballard Technology

After following these steps, you will be able to open and run LabVIEW examples for both MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 429 protocols using your Astronics Ballard PXIe modules.
