Solid Amber Status LED on SLSC-12001 Chassis

Updated Aug 11, 2025

Issue Details

When I power on my SLSC-12001 chassis, the Status LED turns amber while booting and never turns green to indicate that it has fully booted. I cannot see my chassis in NI MAX or communicate with it using the SLSC API.

Solution

If the Status LED stays amber, it indicates that the chassis is never fully booting up successfully. To fix this, follow these steps to perform a factory reset of the chassis:

  1. Power on the chassis
  2. Locate the Reset button at the rear of the chassis
  3. Hold down the Reset button for >5 seconds, then release the button. The reset will revert the chassis to the following settings, according to the SLSC-12001 Getting Started guide.

  4. After performing the reset, confirm that the chassis fully boots up (Status LED turns solid green). If so, reconfigure the chassis with the proper IP mode (DHCP, Link Local, or Static), IP address, chassis and module names, and credentials.

Additional Information

If you were previously using Static IP addresses on the SLSC-12001 chassis and host PC/host Real-Time controller, the factory reset will likely cause the PC/controller to be unable to communicate with the chassis until the IP settings are properly configured. To detect and reconfigure the IP settings of the SLSC-12001 chassis:

If you want to configure the SLSC chassis to use a DHCP Server to obtain an IP address:

The chassis will automatically obtain a DHCP IP address after the factory reset if it is connected to a network with a DHCP server present. In that case, no additional steps need to be taken.

If you want to configure the SLSC chassis to use a static IP address:

  1. Directly connect a PC to the SLSC-12001 chassis
  2. Set the PC's Ethernet port which is connected to the chassis to Automatic. This will allow the port to obtain a link-local IP address that should be on the same IP subnet as the chassis
  3. Open NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (NI MAX)
  4. Locate the SLSC Chassis under My System»Devices and Interfaces»Network Devices
  5. Go to the Network Settings tab and configure the chassis with the correct configuration, then click Save
  6. Reconfigure the host PC's network settings to use the appropriate IP address
