Issue Details

I installed my own version of Windows 11 24H2 on a PXIe-8881 and after installing NI Peripheral Drivers (PD) 3.0, Windows flags the AMD display adapter driver (atdcm64a.sys) as incompatible.

Solution

To work around this issue, consider the following options.

  • Disable security features:
    • Turn off Memory Integrity and Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist in Windows Security settings.
      • In the Windows Security app on your PC, select Device security Core isolation details
      • Note: Core Isolation Memory Integrity is a Microsoft recommended (not mandatory) VBS security feature. More information can be found here: Memory integrity and VBS enablement
  • Use an external display adapter:
    • Connect a third-party USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI adapter.
  • Remove the AMD GPU driver:
    • Uninstall the AMD driver and use the default Microsoft display driver.
    • Note: This limits display resolution and reduces GPU performance.

If you want to re-enable security features, you must remove the incompatible AMD driver.

Additional Information

The AMD E6465 GPU driver (atdcm64a.sys) is flagged due to known vulnerabilities. AMD has declared this driver end-of-life and will not provide updates.

This issue was not detected during NI OS image development because the WIM-based installation method used internally does not trigger the error.

This issue only affects customers who install their own version of Windows 11 24H2, such as those who purchase the “no OS” variant of the PXIe-8881. NI’s official OS image is not affected because it disables Core Isolation by default when system prerequisites are not met.
