Issue Details

  • I am setting up a new SystemLink Server (SLS) Instance. After installing the software, the TestMonitor service fails to start. The Skyline log shows a Data Migration Failed error. How can I fix this?
  • After installing SystemLink Server, the TestMonitor service errors with the message below. What causes this?

TestMonitor | ERROR - Data migration failed: Skyline.UnexpectedException: An unexpected exception occurred

Solution

This error can usually be resolved by restarting the SystemLink services from the NI SystemLink Server Configuration application. In some cases, it may be necessary to attempt the following beforehand:

  1. Restart the SystemLink Server machine.
  2. Ensure that the following services are set to Automatic and Running in the Windows Services application:
    • NI SystemLink Forwarding Service (if present)
    • NI SystemLink Message Bus
    • NI SystemLink Service Manager
    • NI SystemLink TDM Account Service (if present)
    • NI SystemLink TDM Database Service (if present)

Error Upon Upgrade

If a different version of SystemLink Server was previously installed, and this error appeared on upgrade, it is possible that the TestMonitor data is corrupt.

In this case, assuming you have correctly created backup files of the previous installation, restore the data from backup as explained in Migrate Systemlink Server Data to Another Computer.
