Issue Details

I am creating an ICD (Interface Control Document) file for my Camera Link frame grabber card 143X with the NI Camera File Generator and configured the serial interface with parity enabled (odd, even). But when testing the serial commands, apparently the parity bit seems to take effect.

  • Why is the serial parity option not working on my frame grabber?
  • Is there any other setting to make this option work?

Solution

The Camera Link Interface Standard Specification p.10 states "The serial interface will have the following characteristics: one start bit, one stop bit, no parity, and no handshaking". All of our Camera Link frame grabbers are compliant with this specification.

Additional Information

The Camera File Generator software was designed to create camera files for other types of cameras as well (parallel digital cameras, for example).

  • Parallel digital frame grabbers may have used serial communication and supported the Parity setting, which is why it is in option in the software.
