Issue Details

After unchecking certain items in the Search Directories settings, a prompt appears asking for frontend.dll when opening a sequence file. It prevents me from logging into TestStand and opening the sequence file. How can I fix this?

Solution

The frontend.dll file is essential for TestStand's user interface and is typically located in one of the following default directories:

  • For 64-bit systems: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 20xx\Components\Callbacks\FrontEnd\x64
  • For 32-bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 20xx\Components\Callbacks\FrontEnd\Win32

Once you locate the frontend.dll and can access the TestStand, you should access the Search Directories settings and ensure the following to prevent this issue in the future:

  1. The default TestStand directories are checked in the Search Directories configuration.
  2. If you’ve added custom directories, place the default TestStand directories at the top of the list and move any custom directories toward the bottom.

Incorrect directory order or missing default paths may cause TestStand to fail in locating essential files like frontend.dll.
