Current Limit of Digital Output in USB-6453

Issue Details

Looking USB-6453 specification, it shows ±10mA per channel is the max current output but there is a note mention the current is shared between channels. If I use all DO channels at the same time, what should be the max current? 

Solution

As mentioned in the datasheet, the recommended output current per DO channel is 10mA. The total output current for all DO channels is shared with the +5V power source, which is limited to a maximum of 280mA (with >7.5 W USB Type-C port). 

The maximum power specified mainly indicates the static power. Technically, we can output all DIO channels with 10mA, which means a total power of 160mA. The +5V power source needs to be monitored to avoid exceeding the total power of 280mA.
