Issue Details

Upon starting NI Volume License Manager, (VLM) I received the following pop-up message.

NI VLM detected that "Full Name" and "Email" custom fields do not exist. NI VLM uses the information in these fields to email clients. NI also uses this information to provide technical support to your clients. To create these fields or rename existing custom fields that contain this data, select the Tools>>Preferences menu item and select Custom Fields in the navigation tree.

Solution

This warning message occurs because, the administrator of the server modified or deleted the "Full Name" and/or "Email" custom fields within Tools >> Preferences >> Custom Fields menu in NI VLM.

There are two ways to resolve this pop-up message.

  1. You can simply click on the "Do not show me again" then press OK. This will ignore the message and it will not pop-up again.
  2. If you change the name of the fields back, or create new fields, with "Full Name" or/and "Email" then, the message is not going to pop-up, when you open VLM the next time. Please note, that the "Full Name" and "Email" fields are case sensitive.

Additional Information

Initially, when you are trying to modify the "Full Name" and/or "Email" fields under the Tools >> Preferences >> Custom Fields menu, VLM warns you with the following message.

All data associated with the selected fields will be deleted. NI VLM uses the information in the "Full Name" and "Email" fields to email clients. NI also uses this information to provide technical support and other benefits to your clients. Do you want to continue?

If you did this modification by mistake and deleted the associated data, you can follow the steps, described in the Restoring NI VLM from a Backup File article to restore the lost data.
