Issue Details

I would like to acquire a monitor that supports DisplayLink technology and connect it to my cRIO-9048. According to the cRIO-9048 specs, it is possible to connect a monitor to one of its the USB-C ports. From what I have read about DisplayLink technology, it allows monitors to connect to a single USB port without the need of an external power supply or additional hardware to provide touchscreen capability. All these features are managed directly through the same USB port. Are these products supported by NI Linux Real-Time controllers?

Solution

NI Linux Real-Time targets, including the cRIO-9048, support DisplayPort, which is a physical video interface standard. DisplayLink, on the other hand, is a combination of both software and hardware. For proper functionality, DisplayLink depends on a driver that is not supported and has not been tested on NI Linux Real-Time. If you require display capabilities for your application, you will need to look for a monitor compatible with the DisplayPort video protocol. For example, the TSM monitors, that also provides touchscreen features through USB-A connectivity.
