Adding a Can FD Port to sbRIO

Issue Details

The sbRIO-9629 and sbRIO-9638 have a CAN FD port.

How do I add more ports?

Solution

There are two approaches when adding CAN FD ports to the sbRIO.

  • One method is to expand using a mezzanine card (RMC). For example, the NI 9697 RMC can be used with the sbRIO-9629, allowing you to add C Series modules. However, standard C Series modules are not compatible with the NI 9697, so you will need to use the sbRIO 9862, which is a version without the protective cover designed specifically for sbRIO.
  • An alternative option is to connect a cDAQ chassis to the sbRIO and insert C Series modules for CAN, such as the NI 9860 or NI 9862, into the chassis. In this setup, the cDAQ chassis is controlled by the sbRIO.
