How to install ELVISmx on Windows 11

Updated Jun 27, 2025

Environment

Hardware

  • myDAQ Student Kit
  • myDAQ University Kit

Driver

  • NI-ELVISmx

Operating System

  • Windows

The ELVISmx driver is getting a Blue Screen when it is installed on a computer with Windows 11.

As ELVISmx is not supported on Windows 11, but ELVISmx 19.0 is the most recent version to use it, the temporary workaround to use the ELVISmx Instrument Launcher with myDAQ, ELVIS I, or ELVIS II is installing the following software in this order:

  1. NI-DAQmx 2024 Q3.
  2. LabVIEW Runtime 2018 SP1.
  3. ELVISmx 2019.

Please note that the machine must be without NI Software before installing the drivers.

We also recommend the following:

  1. Turn off Kernel DMA protection - https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000oyaCCAQ&l=en-MY
  2. Look through other security settings under BIOS and see if we can experiment to turn it off. Example would be biometric authentication or Enhanced Windows Biometric Security
  3. Boot with safe mode.

If you are using Apple Bonjour Service on your laptop and get an error, we recommend:

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2.  Look for the Bonjour Service.
  3. Right-click it, select Properties, and then Stop it.
  4. Set the Startup type to Disabled.

In the previous order installation, the software was correctly installed without the Blue Screen on Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 Enterprise, and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise. After installing the software, your NI MAX should look like this (version 19 and 24 coexist):
