How to Set the PXIe-1088 Chassis to Power Up Automatically with AC Power

Updated Jan 24, 2025

The PXIe-1088 chassis can be configured to automatically power up when AC power is applied. This is done by adjusting the position of a DIP switch on the backplane board inside the chassis.

Important Notes

  • Power Off First: Always power off the chassis and disconnect the power cord before performing any hardware configuration changes.
  • Handle Components Safely:
    • Use proper tools to avoid damaging internal components.
    • Never remove or insert a controller or card while the chassis is powered on, as this can damage the devices.

 Steps to Configure

1. Prepare the Chassis:

  • Place the chassis on a stable surface and ensure it is powered off.
  • Disconnect the AC power cord.

2. Access the Backplane:

  • Remove the system controller or corresponding slot cover.
  • For easier access, you may remove additional PXI cards or slot covers.

3. Locate the DIP Switches:

  • Look into the chassis from the front. The backplane board contains four DIP switches located close to each other.
  • Refer to the diagram below to identify the exact location.

4. Adjust DIP Switch #2 (PWR):

  • Toggle the second switch from the bottom to the left. This sets the chassis to Manual Mode.

5. Reconnect Power:

  • Put Controller and PXI Cards back into the controller.
  • Reattach the AC power cord.

The chassis will now power on automatically when AC power is applied and power off when it is removed.

Next Steps

What Is Manual Mode?

In Manual Mode, the chassis powers up automatically when AC power is applied and shuts down when AC power is removed. This mode is useful for setups requiring unattended power cycling.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure DIP Switch #2 is fully toggled to the left.
  • Confirm the AC power cord is securely connected to the chassis.
