Issue Details

I have installed the VST3 (PXIe-5842 + PXIe-5655) and the PXIe-5633 VNA in a chassis and made the device associations to connect the modules from the NI Hardware Configuration Utility (NI-HWCU). However, whenever I remove the VST3 from the system and attempt to use the PXIe-5633 in a standalone operation, I get Error -1074100386 - A session cannot be created because the resource name for an associated device is invalid

Whenever I go back into the NI-HWCU to disassociate the PXIe-5633 from the VST3, I am unable to do so since the VST3 is no longer present in the NI-HWCU.

How do I get the PXIe-5633 back into a working state to use it as a standalone device?

Solution

This issue is a bug reported in the 2024Q4 version of NI-RFSA and RFmxVNA. The official fix for this issue will be released as part of the 2025Q2 version of NI-RFSA and RFmxVNA. You may follow the workaround listed below to get the PXIe-5633 operational again.

To fix this issue, use NI MAX to delete the device associations. NI MAX shows devices not present in the system that was recently removed and allows for associations to be changed (whereas the NI-HWCU does not show devices not present).
