Updated Jan 2, 2025

The purpose of this guide is to troubleshoot issues related to the NHR 9300 system including hardware failures and connection issues.

Before you begin

Make sure to review the NHR 9300 manual on ni.com under product documentation High-Voltage Battery Cycler - NI - you may need to be logged in with your account for access.

Scope of This Guide

Only the most common symptoms reported are covered in this guide and will be updated as needed. If you require additional support, please follow the process described here NHR Hardware and Software Support - NI while ensuring product and serial information is provided if a repair request is needed.

How to Use This Guide

The guide is organized by common symptoms. Identify which situation best fits the behavior you are experiencing and follow the corresponding troubleshooting steps in the order they are given.

Symptom 1: The NHR 9300 will not turn on or boot

    1. Check facility breakers and ensure enough power is supplied to the NHR 9300 while taking into consideration any safety protocols such as lockout/tagout.
    2. Check the breaker located on the bottom rear of the NHR tester. Turn on if necessary and try powering on the unit again.
    3. With facility power off and the tester's breaker in the closed position, check continuity across all 3 phases to check for damage.
    4. Check the E-OFF (Emergency Stop Bottom) to see if it has been pressed. The 9300 opens both facility and UUT contactors to isolate itself and prevent damage. An error is generated in the error history and a reset is required to return system to operation.

Symptom 2: The NHR 9300 provides incorrect voltage/current

    1. Check the error history by first launching the diagnostic panel from a remote PC. If unable to connect via a remote PC, move onto visual inspection and then contact technical support.
      1. Navigate a file explorer to C:\Program Files (x86)\NH Research\PowerPanel and selecting PMDiagUtility.exe
      2. Examine the different errors to help understand if a power board, DSP board, or other component has been damaged and requires repair. Common error messages are described on page 64 of the hardware reference manual such as emergency stop, grid over/under voltage, and other internal errors.
    2. Run the power panel Self Test by selecting More..., Self-TestContinue. If errors are listed, take a picture or screenshot and contact technical support.

Symptom 3: Cannot connect remotely to NHR 9300

    1. Double check your IP address settings are correct by selecting More... and About from the power panel on the front of the NHR 9300.
    2. Try connecting the PC LAN port to one of the NHR Network ports located on the back of the system using a cross-over Ethernet cable. You may need to disable WIFI temporarily.
