Issue Details

I use Cisco IE 4000 switch with cRIOs. There is a setting of priority1 and priority2. What are the priority1 and priority2 settings in PTP for?

Solution

The priority1 and priority2 settings are part of the 802.1AS configuration and are used to determine which device becomes the grandmaster clock in the network (802.1AS is an IEEE 802.1 standard that is based on the PTP). It is recommended to set these values lower than those in the cRIO 802.1AS settings to ensure the switch is always selected as the grandmaster clock.
