Can NTP and TSN Synchronization Be Mixed on cRIO?

Issue Details

A customer uses Cisco IE4000 with some cRIOs. They want to make TSN as well as PTP or NTP. Is it possible to use them simultaneously?

Solution

No, NTP and TSN synchronization cannot be mixed. NTP and NI-TimeSync should not run simultaneously on a cRIO target as both will write to system time. You need to turn off NTP on the cRIO and use PTP + NI TimeSync. Regarding the difference of those protocol is explained in this document.
