Issue Details

I want to purchase GPIB-USB-HS+ and want to know if it is supported on Linux Desktop OS. There is documentation saying NI-488.2 driver did supported on Linux OS, but from NI Hardware and Software Operating System Compatibility, it shows that GPIB-USB-HS+ is not supported on Linux Desktop. Can you verify this?

If none of these GPIB-USB devices are compatible with Linux, is there any GPIB communication device that is compatible with Linux?

Solution

GPIB-USB-B and GPIB-USB-HS were supported on Linux OS a very long time ago, but due to changes in the Linux kernel, the newer version of NI-488.2 for Linux could no longer support to GPIB-USB communication products. Hence, GPIB-USB-HS+ is not supported by NI on any version of Linux Desktop.

You may check out NI-488.2 for Linux Readme file for the list of supported GPIB communication device that is compatible with Linux Common Desktop distributions, for instances PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, PCIe-GPIB, PCIe-GPIB+, PXI-GPIB, etc.
