DC Bias ALC (Automatic Level Control ) of PXIe-4190 for Large Capacitors

Issue Details

When we measure several large capacitors using tweezers (such as Keysight 16334A) and DC Bias ALC (Automatic Level Control ) = On for PXIe-4190, it causes OLP (Overload Protection) error frequently. Why?

Solution

There is a known issue where large capacitors (> 1 uF) can make the DC Bias unstable with DC Bias ALC (Automatic Level Control ) = On. It makes sense to set DC Bias ALC = Off here to avoid any inadvertent tripping. 

Also, in this fixture since they are using the tweezers the connection could be intermittent which could cause issues for Autorange.  Especially for large capacitors settling time is important. This is described in the Specification of PXIe-4190.
