Issue Details

Is it possible to do software synchronization across multiple cDAQ chassis with FlexLogger?

Solution

The synchronization capabilities of FlexLogger are described here. Some chassis, such as the cDAQ-9178, have two BNC connectors that could theoretically be used for synchronization. However, due to the way DAQ handles tasks, this is not feasible. We would need to create one task for clock sharing and another for data acquisition, but we cannot run both tasks simultaneously. Therefore, synchronization in this manner is not possible. The only way to synchronize two cDAQ chassis would be to use a chassis that supports TSN such as the cDAQ9189 or 9185.

Remember, software synchronization is not very accurate. FlexLogger performs software synchronization, but as for all software synchronization, it isn’t highly precise, and we can’t guarantee specific skew or drift characteristics.
